Hind Rajab was a six-year-old Palestinian girl killed in Gaza on January 29, 2024 as her family tried to escape Israel’s attacks on Tel al-Hawa. Hind survived the initial attack on her family’s vehicle, leaving her to beg emergency services for rescue over the phone, surrounded by the bodies of her uncle, aunt, and four cousins. The Israeli army targeted the ambulance that was sent to save her hours later, killing paramedics Yusuf al-Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun. Forensic investigators later mapped 335 bullet holes on the body of the car in which Hind was hiding.
All proceeds from this painting have been donated to three families with young girls seeking refuge from the war on Gaza:
Ahmed Abufool is a journalist trying to reunite with his wife and two children, Dani and Nasr, in Egypt;
Majed Jebril, a former professor from Gaza, and his wife and two children (including young artist Bana Majed) are seeking funds to rebuild their lives in Egypt and to help their uncle evacuate and join them;
Mahmoud Abdel Hadi and his two daughters, Maryam and Sham, are sheltering in Gaza without access to food, water, internet, or electricity.
